decide vs. intend

Hi all,

I have a question about the difference between "decide" and "intend" in terms of meaning and thier usage.
So I'm just wondering what would be more appropriate for the following sentence

"I ________ to finish my thesis next year" I think 'intend' is more appropriate in this case? Is that correct?

Thank for your help in advance!
