Dear teachers, please help with my essay

TOPIC: For countries, important parts of education are reading, writing and maths. With the advent of computers, some people think that computer skills should be made as a forth skill. To what extent do you agree.

Traditionally, students are required to read, write and do maths at school. However, the popularity of computers in the modern world has lead to the belief that teaching computer skills should also be included in the curriculum. Personally, I agree with this opinion and think that it can benefit students greatly.

First of all, by acquainting student with computers, schools can prepare them for their future ahead in many ways. With various technological advances in recent decades, the ability to use a computer is fast becoming a prerequisite in many occupations. In addition, this skill is increasingly being essential in that it enables us to receive information and news around the globe conveniently and connect with others. Thus, by nurturing students’ skill to use a computer at an early stage, schools can help them realize their importance. On the basis of that, students can have more time, energy and knowledge to develop their ability to use computers. This can allow students to improve their self-study and most importantly, equip them with an indispensable skill in life.

However, there are undoubtedly some drawbacks to this idea. One reason is that focusing on students’ computer skill can distract them from other subjects like maths, science or English. Moreover, students can be too interested in computers and develop bad habits associated with the Internet or video games that might negatively affect their health. In my opinion, this can easily be averted. School should provide students with a well-rounded education and warn them about the harmful side of the computers. Hence, considering the positive effects of teaching computer skills, such concerns are therefore negligible.

In conclusion, helping students become computer-literate is mainly positive and constructive because it can prepare them their careers. While there are potential disadvantages connected with health problem or school performance, I firmly believe that computer skills should be taught at school.
