Dear native spaekers! Could you please correct mistakes in my school project? Thank you in advance.
It has recently become popular among graduates of the leading Russian universities to continue their education (to study for MAS, to get a second education abroad). Education abroad widens your scope and broadens your mind, makes you a bicultural person, develops socio- cultural and communicative competence. Secondly, an international degree considerably expands career possibilities for graduates in their country. Most of international companies amply to invest into their country’s economy foreign specialists and tend to employ applicants with diplomas of familiar universities. The Ivy League is a group of eight oldest and respected private universities in the northeastern US with a historical background, unique cultural heritage and teaching based on old educational traditions. The Ivy League universities are noted for depth of study and wide spectrum of subjects offered to its students. In our research we do not aim at comparing and contrasting the eight colleges, for it is no use drawing a distinction between equally honoured and tried-and-true institutions. We would rather try to give a general overview of them as of an educational elite integrity, yet singling out specific peculiarities of each one. We have revealed eight most significant criteria of comparing the Ivy League universities. Each university has got its own mark: either one tick or two. We found out the items for comparison by analysing information from various resources. Thus, now you can look through the tabular data. Let us scrutinize the Russian universities. You can take a look at six of them. They are: 1) Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia 2) Moscow State Institute of International Relations 3) Moscow State University or just MSU 4) National Research Nuclear University 5) Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology 6) Plekhanov Russian Economic University Each of them has its own history and traditions. The Russian higher educational institutions provide a very high level of knowledge so many foreigners come to Russia, particularly, to Moscow to get a degree (bachelor’s, master’s or doctor’s). Such system of studying is called Bologna Process. Before coming down to the Ivy League universities I’m going to mention advantages and disadvantages of the higher education in Russia and the USA. Each criterion is estimated according to a 5-point scale. Comparing the strong and weak points of both systems we see that they are similar in many ways. However, a distinctive feature of Higher Education in the United States is a large proportion of self-education : the ratio of lectures and seminars to new methods of teaching techniques drastically differs. The proportion of traditional teaching methods to the new ones, such as case study, projects, debates, simulation games, tutorial guidance is 20% to 80% at an average American university vs 80% to 20% at a Russian one . This system allows to develop ability of thinking, therefore not just to transfer knowledge. The American system provides primarily a diversified and multiprofessional education. We have questioned high school pupils of our school in order to find out which profession is for them. We analysed the answers of our questionnaire so that we investigate students’ interests in the status of the educational institutions. As a result of the analysis we found out the percentage rate of the students interested in getting a higher education abroad. The first diagram called “Choice of profession” tells us that 40% of the respondents have already chosen a profession, 47% have not yet and 13% are not sure. We made pie charts as they let you see the real overview of the survey results. The following conclusion may be drawn from these features. Firstly, nearly a half of school leavers haven’t made up their minds about their future profession. In my opinion that proves that they are not quite ready for adult life. Meanwhile, a great number of students (60%) knows which universities they are going to. The 4th diagram demonstrates us that equal percentage of our pupils aim to get a higher education both in Russia and abroad. 37% appreciate higher education abroad and set a goal of entering a foreign university. 73% find the reputation of a university very important. More than 70 % of the respondents find it necessary to have a good command of a foreign language. Now I would like to consider the Ivy League universities separately. On each slide you can glance over the main facts. For those who made a decision we carried out a guidebook on the Ivy League universities – the leading in the world (on Earth). Conclusion: As a result of our investigation we have produced a guidebook for universities’ entrants which can be used as a handbook in helping to decide which university in which country and which degree to choose. We have analysed and compared the systems of the Russian and the American higher educations and recommended the leading educational institutions in both states and drew a conclusion that both have their own benefits. Yet we accentuate the Russian higher education since it is not becoming out-of-date and is still very popular. So a school-leaver has to make his/her own decision independently. Our manual is just a recommendation for applicants. Thanks for attention!!!
