Dear Mom

Dear Mom,
I’m really sorry for talking back to you last night. I didn’t mean to make you angry. In fact, you and Dad are the ones I love most in the world. I was just trying to make you understand that I want to be like you—do what I love and give it my best shot.

You want me to go to medical school and be a doctor like you. But I am not interested in it at all. I know what good doctors do for the world, but good teachers are also needed by the world. They bring hopes to the future and make contribution to the society. People are born to be good at different things. Celine Dion, a world-class singer, quit school and went after her dream at the age of 14. She is greatly loved because her beautiful voice gives people joy. Richard Branson, an English business magnate, dropped out of high school and started his first business at the age of 16. Steve Jobs, a founder of Apple, took only a few classes in college instead of being a full-time student because he knew what he really wanted. His words, “You’ve got to find what you love,” has stayed in my mind since I listened to his famous talk to the students at Stanford.

Mom, please let me live my own life. You would be happy and proud to see me happily stand in front of my students and lead them to a better life.
