Deadline

A university offered me a master degree course and there's a deadline for accepting this offer. I told the university that I need more time to think about it and the university agreed to extend the deadline for me. However, I declined the offer in the end. Could I reply to them by saying "Thank you for giving me more time to discuss this matter with my family." Or "Thank you for extending the deadline for accepting this offer."?
