Dead to the world

Hi,

All online dictionaries I have checked unanimously read that "dead to the world" means "fast asleep".

The online Collins (BrEng) also mentions this phrase can also mean "very drunk".

Do AmEng speakers ever use "dead to the world" for "very drunk?

Top answer

I don't know if Americans say that. Another common phrase in BeEng is dead drunk. Clive

I suppose illiterate dimwits do. It does not mean "very drunk" here.
