Dead Poets Society is a 1989 drama film starring
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robin_Williams and directed by
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Weir. This tells a story of a English teacher who inspires his students to be themselves and change their lives and “Seize the Day” through his teaching of poetry and literature.
Neil Perry, Todd Anderson, Knox Overstreet, Charlie Dalton , Richard Cameron, Steven Meeks, and Gerard Pitts are senior students of the Welton Academy, which is the best preparatory school in America and the values is defined by the headmaster Gale Nolan as "tradition, honour, discipline and excellence".
John Keating, a former student at the school, begins working in the school as an English teacher. He tells his students to call him “O Captain! My Captian!” In his class, he is making unusual works for his students in teaching them. An example of which is he ask the students stand on his desk in order to look at the world in a different way. In another class Keating has Neil read the introduction to their poetry textbook, prescribing a mathematical formula to rate the quality of poetry which Keating finds ridiculous, and he instructs his pupils to rip the introduction out of their books. Inspired by Keating, the secretly revive the school literary club named “Dead Poets Society”.
Neil wants to be an actor but even though he knows that his father will disapprove he still continued to the audition that is held on his school for a play. He was chosen to be one of the characters of the play. But his father “Mr. Perry” discovered that he still continued being an actor even his father disapproved him. His father confronted him and said that he will be enrolled in Harvard University in college to take up a course of Medicine. He decided to commit suicide because he can’t make his father understand his feelings.
The portrayal of characters in this film is realistic and has an impact to the audience. “John Keating” portrayed his character very good because of his natural delivery for his character. While the students used their creativity in their roles.
Being a 1989 film, the graphics of the film is acceptable. Nevertheless, their camera techniques they used made the story more interesting and like to be watched till the end.
This is a must watch movie for high school students like me. Because this film helps us to make our and face our consequences with that decisions. And as we go through our live we need to learn from our experiences and use them to be a better man. We also need to learn how to “Seize the Day” and let nothing ruin the things that will make you happy.
