Dative/benefective alternation

what is the difference between the verbs "give" and "bake/sew/draw" in the double object construction:

John gave an apple to Tom

John gave Tom an apple

and

Sara baked Sam a cake

Beni carved Ben a toy boat

the tailor sew Mark a jacket

The boy drew his mum a picture
