Dates as nouns or adjectives

My practice is to write number dates as nouns: "The reunion is scheduled for October 9."

I see announcements with the adjectival form: "The reunion is scheduled for October 9th." THs seems wrong to me. I think the adjective would be used only in cases such as "the 9th of October," where the word "day" is implied.

Adjectives are describing words so if you don't if a word or number is an adjective just ask yourself

1. What kind?

2. How many?

3. Which one?

4. Whose?

If your word or number answers one of these questions it is probably an adjective.
