Dates and Numbers in English

Hi,

i want to know which form of writing numbers in English is correct, in digits or in words. I have problems with IELTS listening module for ex: I hear "fifty cars" and I write the answer as "50 cars" but the correct answer is in words that is "fifty cars" Is it wrong?

And also I don't know how to write dates in IELTS listening, when I write "12th October"  the correct answer is "October 12". I am confused, because I hear the numbers and dates correctly but the answer is wrong because I don't know the correct form of writing dates and numbers. Please help.

  • You do know the correct way.
  • Itäs very difficult to get it wrong because nearly evrything is correct: 12 October 12th October October 12th October 12 The last one is used by nearly all Americans, I think, but the British use all of them.

Can it be that they would have you write something different from what you hear in the listening module? If I heard October 12, then I would write, "October 12."

If I heard 12th October, then I would write, "12th October."

You might try to find more examples of questions and answers for the IELTS to figure out what they want.
