Date before or after address

I am confused. I always wrote the date after the recipients address and now when I check online this information differs. Which is correct?

It seems though there are different styles, and it would be best if you had an example of the style that the recipient prefers. Lacking that, I am sure that if the layout is clear and professional, the placement of certain fields is not critical.

If you are using Microsoft Word, there are standard letter templates you can use for specific business purposes http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/CT010146787.aspx. I have found these handy to use in my correspondence. I'm not sure if MS has templates specific to an installation language (British/American).
