Can 'collection/gathering of the data in the field' be replaced with 'field data collection' or something similar?
I need a caption as short as possible.
Many thanks for any suggestions!
Best,
P.
P.S.: I'd also like to avoid any ambiguities, as, data collection, for instance, could have a special meaning, say, in information technologies (when talking of database structures). It should be obvious that what it involves is working/operating in the field and getting some data from detectors/sensors/probes...measurements and the like...

You can do that but a more common way to express that idea would be to say "field data acquisition", in my opinion.
