Dashes to set off parentheticals after names

Is it okay to use dashes to set off parenthetical information like job titles? I'm told yes, and I'm confirming here. Instead of parens and a plethora of cumbersome commas, I think the spaced em dashes work well, do you? It's a very easy, smooth read. Indicate if you agree or disagree.

Example:

On Tuesday, June 1, 2011, at 6.12 pm, Joe Blow — marketing director for the XYZ Corporation — informed me, Jane
Gobbledygook — vice president of store operations — of an incident involving embezzlement ....
