Dash or dashing

I saw a jaywalking pedestrian dash/dashing across the road and being run over by a lorry.

1. Is the sentence natural?
2. Should I use 'dash' or 'dashing'?

Simple form implies you have witnessed the whole action.
Continious, on the other hand, gives you a glimpse of the action that is in progress.

I saw a pedestrian jaywalking.
I saw him dash across the road.
He got run over by a [lorry / truck].
