Supporting statement

Dear Sir/Madam,

The purpose of my letter is to apply for your Bachelor’s program Criticism, Communication and Curation: Arts and Design starting in September 2012. My career ambition is to work in the arts events organisation , such as exhibitions, performances and festivals.

In high school I graduated with social science as my major. Now I am a student in my first year of under-graduate studies in the International Relations at the Taras Shevchenko University of Kiev.
It is a long time since the art and the culture in general lie in the range of my interests. But the art is not just my hobby, it is also a need to acquire a knowledge as well as specific skills in this sphere, which I would be able to use in professional and creative fields ( in this case it is better to say “professionally-creative” fields).
I consider myself rather open-minded and good enough at organizational activities and communication. Furthermore, the combination of practical skills with creative thinking gave me the opportunity to take part in a range of interesting projects during my studies and gain the invaluable experience in the performing arts and literary criticism. Staging the play “Le Bourgeois gentilhomme” by Molière and actually having a significant part in it was one of the most exciting experiences of my live. What about the literary project, that was an incredibly interesting study on Ukrainian postmodern poetics and its influence on the cultural transformations in whole.
In summer 2010 I was doing a traineeship in “Ogilvy Ukraine”. My responsibilities in terms of working were making the market researches, researches on some specific products, copywriting and typesetting. That was a unique experience to me because I got in the very heart of advertising and learned plenty of significant things for myself, such as: personal responsibility, time management skills, and the basics of advertising.

Why do I think I would be suitable for these studies? I reckon, because I have a real passion for studying arts and the divergent thinking, which is an essential capacity for creativity, the process of having original ideas that have value. Studying exactly on that course will not only allow me to implement my skills and ambitions in life, but also come up with original ideas and potentially successful projects.
I want to study at University of Arts because of your outstanding educational system, focus on practical skills, but successfully combined with theoretical and your excellent atmosphere. Upon the graduation I definitely plan to work in art sphere, because it is exactly the thing that inspires and motivates me the most.

Given my past history of commitment to excellence, I am confident that I will bring a high level of energy and enthusiasm to your program. I am sure that I will be able to meet the requirements, because of my both personal skills and the sincere wish to succeed in studying.
