Yes. I agree. But when you're faced with the ambiguity problem of that second sentence, sometimes you can put some of the information at the beginning. I came up with this example:

Comprised of material drawn from international publications, it provides access to the most current structural and bibliographic information about organic compounds.

"published" is redundant with "bibliographic."

Information is not structural.

world-wide is not really necessary. There is no geographical restriction, e.g.

The index provides access to the most current bibliographic information published in the US and UK about new organic compounds and their structures.
