Being unable to type the letter, the boss fired me.

' modifies 'me'. ' modifies 'the boss'. So unless the boss fired you because he couldn't type, it does indeed dangle.

In terms of meaning, 'being...' modifies 'me'. But in terms of grammar, 'being...' modifies 'the boss'.

So unless the boss fired you because he couldn't type, it does indeed dangle.
