Dance skills and edit out a video

The Kremlin says it does not understand why Russia's state TV has censored a comedy sketch making fun of President Dmitry Medvedev's dance skills.

Mr Medvedev's press secretary says the president has no problem with people impersonating him.

Russia's Channel One has not commented on why the video was edited out.

The clip re-enacted Mr Medvedev's slightly robotic movements on a dance floor, which were earlier captured on a mobile phone and posted online.

'Strictly Come Kremlin'


To the strains of pop song American boy, Mr Medvedev boogied in his blue suit and white shirt at a university reunion.

The video later became the disco dance sensation of the year.

So it seemed natural that sooner or later Russia's top satirical game show would turn its attention to this Strictly Come Kremlin.

On the show, which is pre-recorded, one team of comedians re-enacted the famous Medvedev moves - and won first prize. But when the programme was broadcast on Channel One, their performance had been edited out.

It does seem that - when it comes to making fun of their country's leaders - Russian TV executives are quick to lose their sense of humour.
