Dalai

During a ceremony known as long-live the leader, the Dalai Lama is presented with precious gifts by the people. You can see, long lines form early in the morning and believers from across the region come and bring their most valuable possession to present to the Dalai Lama just to get a glimpse of him. During the ceremony, the Dalai Lama, believed to be a decendant of the Buddha, sits on a cushioned throne in front of hundreds of monks, seated and praying, and greets his followers. After the presentation, the gifts are distributed to the poor and needy.

Are there any mistakes?
Thanks.

Thanks, Clive. Just one question. Why the plural?
Clive the presentations

Hi,
''To present' is, in some way, 'to give'.

You could call the whole ceremony 'a presentation', which suggests that someone is giving the ceremony to the audience.
Or you could think of it that each donor is giving a gift to the Dalai Lama, thus 'presentations'.

I see why the plural sounds better now. Thanks, Clive.

N2G, do you have any idea why the Dalai Lama shakes hands with lay people? It seems awkward to me. I have never seen other Buddhist monks doing such things. Sorry for asking a question which is unrelated to grammar.

Does he? Did I say he did? I have only seen him greet people by putting his palms together in front of his chest and bowing slightly.

You did not say that of course, but I saw him shaking hands on TV.
