Dad, Dad, capitalization?

Hello,

I have come across a seemingly trivial question. But now it is very important for me, since I am writing something.

question: Should the word "dad" be capitalized or not?

I have found these two sentences from Longman Dictionary:

- Can I borrow your car, Dad?
- My dad was in the army?

From these two sentences and many other, I conclude that when addressing, we should capitalize the word "dad", otherwise it is not necessary. Please help me out. I greatly thank you in advance.

If it's what you call him, then capitalize it, as you would "Mary" or "Mr. " When you refer to him with an article or possessive pronoun, then it's a common noun and it's lower case. Dad, it's good to hear from you.

When you refer to him with an article or possessive pronoun, then it's a common noun and it's lower case.

Dad, it's good to hear from you.
My dad called last night.
The boy is there with his dad.
It was funny to watch all the dads trying to do the same moves as their daughters in balle
