Cyberspace or THE cyberspace

When discussing (the) cyberspace, should we use definite article or not? I am confused because it seems that sometimes it is used with definite article and sometimes not..

If it depends on situation, could you explain me when to use the article and when not to use it..

Perhaps the usage is similar as with the word "society"? When it is used in a general sense, article is not used.?

"cyberspace" does not normally need an article. Some randomly Googled examples: "Our efforts must be focused on prevention of crime in cyberspace" "Armed forces began using cyberspace long before the term was invented" "Today, users have address books scattered across cyberspace" A definite article might be used when talking about a specific cyberspace contrasted with cyberspaces generally.
