Vocabulary

cvc and cvce

Help I am trying to help my Grandson with his homework and I am lost.I have never heard of cvc or cvce. Lookng up on the computer I can see were like the word note is a cvce word because you have the word not and you add the e and it becomes cvce word. Here is a list of the words he has to put as cvc, cvce or oddball, wipe dune, lots, safe, mule, have, gum, vote, race, done, wax, skin, tide, drip, crop, wife, crab, note, rule, which, cape. If someone could help me choose were they go and why so this old granny can learn to. Thank for any help.

I've never heard of them either. "cvc" apparently means a "consonant-vowel-consonant" pattern in a word, and "cvce" apparently means "consonant-vowel-consonant-with a final e" pattern. So cvc: gum wax cvce: wipe dune safe mule have vote race done tide wife note rule cape The others: lots, skin, drip, crop, crab, and which, don't have the cvc or cvce pattern.

  • I've never heard of them either.
  • "cvc" apparently means a "consonant-vowel-consonant" pattern in a word, and "cvce" apparently means "consonant-vowel-consonant-with a final e" pattern.
  • So cvc: gum wax cvce: wipe dune safe mule have vote race done tide wife note rule cape The others: lots, skin, drip, crop, crab, and which, don't have the cvc or cvce pattern.
  • So they'd be classified as "oddball"?
  • But note that you could say that lots is cvcc, skin is ccvc, etc.
