Hi, I'm applying for a doctoral program in linguistics and I need to prepare a CV for it.
Then, could you please review my grammar and vocabulary in my self-introduction?
Thank you so much in advance.
I am a second-year master’s student majoring in English linguistics at the University of XXX. I have developed excellent analytical skills through my years of research. I am an optimistic person who enjoys dealing with difficulties, including those which one may encounter in studying any subfield of linguistics.
In my undergraduate years, I mainly studied English and international communication, and also studied a little about linguistics. Integrating my knowledge on these subjects, I wrote a thesis on the pronunciation learning of English learners of Japanese. I shifted my focus slightly after enrolling in the University of XXX, and now I am researching syntax. More specifically, my research topic is a topic concerned with complementation structures, which have long been discussed in generative grammar but still provides us with interesting contentious discussions. I have gained fundamental knowledge on this topic through my master’s years of research, and I strongly hope to continue to a Ph.D. program so that I can further pursue it with the aim of eventually contributing to foreign language learning by clarifying the intrinsic systems of language.
