Cut right in front of us

Hi

Once Patrick and I, Sabrina, and Sonia were driving in the car when suddenly a driver cut right in front of us, almost causing an accident.

--- Does it mean that some other driver coming from the opposite direction suddenly turned right just in front of their car? I'm also not sure if "right" here means that he/she "turned right" or "right" goes with the phrase "in front of us" meaning "just" in front of us?

Thanks

It could be from any direction. In this context "right" means "just", like you said, or "directly".
