Cut In Half

"The president, Terunobu Maeda, and the heads of Mizuho Corporate Bank and Mizuho Bank will have their pay cut in half for six months from July, the company said."

I think "cut in half" should be "cut by half". "Cut in half" seems to suggest that the pay was divided into two smaller paychecks.

No. 'Cut in half' is rather idiomatic, so you can't just use that approach for all amounts.

Say eg
"My pay was cut by 30%."
"My pay was cut
