Cut down on your personal expenses...

Hi

Would you say that both of these are synonymous?

You need to cut down on your personal expenses.
You need to cut down on your personal expenditures.

Thanks,

Tom

"personal expenditures" sounds odd to me. I would say "personal expenditure". There seems to be a little evidence in search results that "expenditures" is better known in the US.

  • "personal expenditure" could be more general, but it is not completely clear cut.
