Cursor not in box

How would you explain:

I was typing something into a box on a page online. I only look at the keyboard and type in what I need to. When I am done I look up to the screen to see what I have written. The box is blank because I didn't put the cursor in the box.

Is there anything you would change to the above to make it natural ?

Thank you for the help
