current as of

Dear all,

could anybody tell me, what is the meaning of "current as of" in the following sentence:

The father shall only be allowed to claim the child if his child support is current as of December 31 of the year that he is claiming the child.

I would explain this sentence as follows: the father must have paid child support until December 31th without interruptions. But may be I don't understand it correctly.

Thank you.
