Curiosity of English

Hi! I am a student majoring in English.
How do you feel when you speak or write in English? Do you feel freer communicating in English than communicating in your native language? Let's suppose that you are a good English speaker.
I have met some nonnative English speakers who say that English is better language to communicate than their native language. In my opinion, it is because English enables people to think and express one's thoughts freer. I have wondered about the reasons for that.
Have you ever felt in that way? What are the secrets or reasons for this query?

  • Claiming otherwise is mostly snobism; the intent (conscious or unconscious) is to give the impression that the speaker is so extraordinarily fluent in English (a language that seems complex to those who haven't studied languages) and so lofty in thought that only English can give full rein to his prodigious intellect.

I don't know what you mean by "free". If you mean the ease of composing a speech then I think there is nothing more "free" than one's native tongue. But I'm not a good English speaker. Just the answer is so obvious.

[nq:1]I've heard the same claimed about other languages by native English speakers ("French is so much clearer than English," etc.).[/nq]
I've heard that some international laws were written explicity in French for clarity. So maybe they have a point.
And I hear people claiming "French is the most beautifull language in the world". I still don't know what they mean. The pronauncing of Fre

At one time, French was the language of diplomacy. That's really the only reason for writing laws in French, although I've heard that urban legend, too.

[nq:1]I think Italian gives French a good run for its money.[/nq]
What do you mean by that?
[nq:1]and no language is objectively more beautiful than any other.[/nq]
That I cannot agree more. Neither America's economical supriority nor one's better mastery of the language can objectively make English more beautiful than it is.

Sorry, I meant that Italian sounds just about as pretty as French (to my ears).

English isn't very pretty, but I guess it's not very ugly, either.

In a way, I actually really feel better communicating in English than in my native language (German).

and what do you think about Spanish? Do you think it is a clear language?
I was amaized when I saw a student reading a text in Spanish very clearly and he didn't know what he was saying. He only undestood the pronunciations rules and that was all. He was able to read Spanish well.

It is phonetically spelled, which is handy. I don't find it particularly clear or unclear.
