Interesting, this is American usage.

As an English native, I was taught "kerb" as the border to a road. The word "curb" is normally used as a verb - most commonly as in: "He was told to curb his enthusiasm."
"He loved ice cream but he had to curb his desires".

Another interesting difference between American and English is "pavement". In England, this is the footpath on which
