cultural

So last night, Kyle, Annie, and I ventured forth to see the opera La Triviata at Music Hall. It was there that Annie told us that her mother had told her that she might not be such a cultural desert now that she was going to the opera. This got me to thinking, are our teenage years truly spent in a cultural desert?

I still don't quite get the meaning of cultural desert. Please help.

Thanks.

Hi, A desert is an empty, barren area. 'A cultural desert' is a fairly well-known phrase for a place devoid of culture. eg Downtown Winnipeg is a cultural desert on a Saturday night.
