To me, a cuddle is a gentler thing than 'holding you tight', which rather smacks of desperation or teenage hormones to me.

Cuddling is a gentle expression of affection, 'holding tight' and expression of stronger emotions; ****/need/relief.

Yes, I should have mentioned that there would be other interpretations. I had lots of hormones when I cuddled the girls, but you can cuddle a baby or a kitten too.
