Cruises call into port

While many travelers criticize cruises as a boring way to travel, cruises do have their advantages. First of all, they usually call into port at many places.

I can guess the meaning(stop/visit) of the underline from the context, but some dictionaries I used do not give the meaning I guessed.

"First of all, they usually call into port at many places" is awkward and poorly written. It would be better to write "First of all, they call at many ports". To "call at a port" means, as you guessed, to stop at/visit.
