Crossbreed a ginger with a pineapple

Farmers have crossbred a ginger with a pineapple to form a new plant.


Is this correct? I am not sure what the idiomatic way of saying it.

I am not sure what the idiomatic way of saying it is.Crossbreed is a correct verb here, but I usually hear and see simply 'cross'.

eg Farmers have crossed a ginger with a pineapple to form a new plant.
