No difference, as long as people who hear you say cross safely understand that you are talking about a road and not, eg, a river.

I understand what you mean by the sentence being repetitious.
Anyhow, I was taught that the adverb must be as close as possible to the verb that it qualifies. In that respect, do you think my sentences (notwithstanding the repetitious one) are better in terms of making the meaning clearer.
