Definitely silverware is.

I've never talked about crockery in my life, so I don't know.

I don't talk about cutlery much either, but I believe it takes "is."

Hi,

Crockery and cutlery take is.

These terms involve AmE versus BrE.

I never say 'silverware'. I say 'cutlery'.

Hi Julie,

What would AmE have instead of 'crockery'? 'Dishes'? (Presumably that includes cups?)

(I am supposed to fill out a form when someone calls and threatens to bomb the building.) Wouldn't it make your job easier if you just asked the caller to fill out the form?

Best wishes, Clive

Yes, cups and plates, or just "the dishes."

I'm thinking of the line from Beauty and the Beast: Can't be dreary or complaining/When the flatware's entertaining.

So... we use flatware only very rarely, and usually when you are registering for your wedding. But it takes "is" too.

(And Clive: Wouldn't it make your job easier if you just asked the caller to fill out the form
