It's a tricky term...but try to look at it this way:
"A man kills his newly born baby to spare him of the cruelties of this world."
In essence the man really does love his baby, but wants to protect it so much he feels it would be safer not to experience this world at all, and is convinced he's doing the baby a favor. (Sorry for such a dark example!)

I wouldn't describe either of the examples given by hadi1978 as crimes of passion. Both seem to be the result of a lot of thought. A crime of passion is one that happens before the person has an opportunity to think about what he is doing.

I think you are misunderstanding the meaning of "passion" in the phrase "crime of passion." It doesn't mean love or attraction. It means extreme emotion not moderated by rational thought.
