Prison is the common way in most countries to solve the problem of crime. However, a more effective solution is to provide people with better education. Agree or disagree?

People people have different views about whether education methods would be more effective than prison, when it comes to tackling crime. I agree with this opinion, as will now be discussed.

On the one hand, I would agree that prison is effective in dealing with offenders. At it simplest, a person who commits a crime must know that all unlawful activities have consequences. Prison sentences punished criminals because they lose their freedoom and are seperated from their family and friends. By this way, prison acts as a deterent to make people think carefully before breaking the law. It seems to me that, however, prison would be less effective in solving the root problem of rising crime rate, but it is a stopgap measure that the government must take to protect their law-abiding citizens.

On the other hand, I contend that a combination of different education methods would be better compared to prison. Firstly, parents should act as pioneers to educate children at an early age about social evils and how to avoid them. It has long been acknowleged that the home environment has profound impacts on the development of a child, and a significant percentage of juvenile stems from insufficient education they receive from their childhood. Hand in hand with this, teachers also play an integral part in raising the awareness of young people about crime. Moral lessons ought not be neglected in the classroom, and a positive education environment should be promoted, contributing to crime prevention.

In conclusion, although prison sentences are a essential weapon in the fight against crime, I believe that a good education would be more effective to curb crime rate.
