Nowadays, the majority of countries in the world use prison as a basic solution to tackle crime. While some people probably overvalue the effect of education on crime issue in comparison with prison, I believe both methods are equally important.
To begin with, prison plays an integral role in maintaining the order of society. First, a social isolation should be required to dangerous criminals, such as murders, with the aim at guaranteeing a safer life to everyone. In some cases, unrepentant offenders are likely to continue their illegal actions unless being arrested. Second, by means of severe punishment, prison system acts as a deterrent to anyone intending to commit a crime. For example, according to some rules of law in a lot of countries, a terrorist can be jailed for life or sentenced death penalty due to his terrible attacks.
Besides, education is also a long-term solution to reduce the crime rate. An effective education system considerably enhances the awareness of people about laws and social problems, specially about crime problem. For instance, students are encouraged to study a lot of fundamental laws at school in order to avoid unlawful actions. Providing thorough knowledge about serious consequences of drugging for teenagers is also a useful way to help them resist this temptation. Moreover, moral lessons exert some positive influence on criminals’ repentance with a view to drop dramatically the re-offending rate after they are released.
In conclusion, both prison and education have their own values in dealing with crime problem, so a complementary combination between two methods will promise to shape a better world.
