Crevice/clearance volume?

what's the definition of these two terms. I cannot find it anyway. English certainly isn't my native language and I cannot really understand the difference. Besides I have no broader context, only the sentence:

The crevices volume is calculated to be 0.5% of the clearance volume.

I know that the crevice volume is the one between the piston, piston rings and the cylinder wall, but what is the clearance volume?
