Can I say "a crescendo of" a countable noun? Or can the phrase be used only with an uncountable noun (e.g. a crescendo of misery; a rising crescendo of violence)? I am intending my sentence to refer to a series of Japanese offensives (military, diplomatic - doesn't matter what) that increase in intensity over time.
