Crazed for

Hi

I read this online.

I don’t think « craze for » is correct here. Is it? I couldn’t find it used that way.

Globally crazed for his nickname Linsanity, the 29-year-old American professional basketballer Jeremy Lin currently plays for the Brooklyn Nets in the NBA.

thank you

anonymous I don’t think « craze for » is correct here. You are right. It might be new slang, but I read the rest of that piece, and the writer is not very good to the point where he sounds foreign, so it could be a lame attempt at a nonce word, a simple mistake, or an ill-advised direct translation from his native tongue.
