It needed a swashbuckling innings from someone at the top to kickstart India's run-chase but unfortunately that wasn't to be as Karthik and Vijay threw away their wickets after getting off to decent starts. Kohli and Rohit Sharma fought hard, forging a 95 run stand for the 3rd wicket but once Rohit was dismissed, Steyn ran through the middle order, picking up Dhoni and Kohli in quick succession to dent India's chances. A lot was expected of Pathan but he failed to come up with the goods yet again and it was all left to Raina and Jadeja to pull India out of the crater that they had been put in. Raina came up with some enterprising shots in the batting power-play but fell one short of a well deserved fifty, and once he was gone India's chances were blown away as well.
