Craft, crafting and DIY

I'm a hardware computer technician. I use to read a lot of technical articles in Internet to stay updated on the latest repair techniques. I frequently see used terms craft and crafting. Have they the same meaning? I think crafting is intended as a DIY synonym while craft is to use for more professional job. Is it right?
Thanks in advance.

I think of the noun (a craft) as a manual skill (as opposed to an intellectual skill), excluding sports. Edit. It's the application of the skill, not the skill itself.

  • Well, this is throwing me off a little.
  • I'm thinking of the collocation "arts and crafts," in which the distinction between the two sometimes becomes blurred.
