Would you please have the kindness to tell me what improvements are possible in this cover letter ?
Many thanks
"Dear Prof., I was very interested to read of your requirements for an French Instructor position and enclose my CV and the requested copies of qualification documents in connection with this mail. First of all, I surely have to precise my area of specialization : I work on linguistics, more exactly on semantics, which seems to be a key point in my application. Indeed, I guess linguists retrieve a good awareness of the language syntax structure, morphology and meaning construction. This proficiency could be essential for the position. Moreover, I have already taught French and French linguistics at any level : in university and college (young adults), school (teenagers). As you will see from my CV, with the end of my PhD, I reach the real start of my beginning researcher's career. However, I already have a strong experience in teaching : more than five hundred hours. In fact, I should say I have always been attracted by this task and consequently, I show a great enthusiasm doing it. My relationship with students and other professors are also excellent, as it was at the University of C. where I have finished my replacement contract in 2009, and now at the M. University of B.. I should also add that these experiences made me aware of the problems of teaching French in a foreign context, as a second language for the students for example. I am used to develop explanations, slowly and as long as required so that every student should get a satisfactory understanding of the related topic. From a theoretical point of view, I am particularly familiar with the different theoretical backgrounds which contribute to the meaning construction. On my opinion, the solid knowledge of these theories is my first feature : I am able, as I demonstrated in my PhD, to investigate different kind of theories, basically poles apart, like onomasiology theories and semasiology theories - of which mine is one - and appreciate their cross-checking points, pick up the key strength of structuralism, generative grammar, cognitive sciences, and pragmatics for example to include them in my system, based on semic methods analysis. For my PhD, I have especially worked on polysemy and sentiments nouns : indeed, its title was "*". My manuscript based on it has been published in the end of December 2008 in collaboration with L. Editors (*) : I presume it reveals a good aptitude to consider and search for logical solutions to every kind of problems. This semantic aspect of language is also useful in teaching, of course. I am a syntax specialist too : I published a handbook dedicated to students in February 2010 whose title is *. To conclude on my competences, I may leave an additional information : I have a solid knowledge of informatics. Consequently, I could be in charge of some administrative duties which require this proficiency.
Therefore, for all these reasons, you can easily understand the position offered draw my attention. If any further information should be required, I would be pleased to reply quickly. I thank you for your kind attention. Yours sincerely,"
