Hi! I am about to prepare my applications for some Universities in the Netherlands. I need help for writing and improving my motivation letter. I had no experience so I don't know how it works. I hope you will reply soon.
cheers
Dear Professor, I am writing to apply for the PhD project “MAnIAC”. In 2013, I graduated from University of Naples in Italy with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. Following my first degree, I remained at the same university, where in October I get a Master Degree in Chemical Sciences with honors. Through my years of studying, I became fascinated with analytical devices and in particular, their application in some areas like food and environment. For that reason, I took extra courses related to this topic, as my academic career shows, getting excellent marks.
My Master thesis focused on the complexing properties of an organic ligand, dehydroacetic acid,a derivate of pyran-2-one, widely utilized as fungicide and antibacterials in food and cosmetic products. The work was aimed to understand the biological activity of the ligand, and if its properties are enhanced after complexation with metallic cations. My research was performed using several tecniques, like Fluorescence and UV-VIS spectroscopy, 1H and 13C NMR, FT-IR spectroscopy, in order to evaluate the stability constants of the complexes with each ion.
Through several laboratory activities performed during my academic study and Master project, lasted 12 months, I have not only improved laboratory skills, but also understood that I would go on with academic life. In order to streghten my knowledge in the field I appreciate the most, Analytical Chemistry, I would like to pursue my area of interest as a PhD candidate in your department. Your program offers an exciting interdisciplinary scenario, in which I will have the opportunity to pursue my area of interest as a scientist.
I am very reliable, willing to learn, focused on commitments targets, with a keen eye for detail. Furthermore, I must admit that travelling extensively both in Europe and overseas has helped me develop a strong passion for international environments. I am eager to apply what I have learned to help you with your project.
