Cover letter for PhD position, somebody can correct it for me??:D
Hi guys! I want to apply for a PhD position and I have to write a cover letter. I haven't experience about it, somebody can help me? thank you very much this is my letter:
"Rome, 25th February 2010
Dear Committee Members, I am writing to apply for the PhD in Neuroscience at XXXX University of London. I’m an Italian citizen and I would like to move in the UK in the immediate future. I desire to study biology since I was very young. I have always been spellbound from the invisible mechanisms that make our cells living unity. I graduated in Biological Sciences in 2007 at University of Rome “La Sapienza”. During my studies I handled many different subjects, from the vegetal to animal cellular biology, from physic to chemistry, from physiology to pharmacology, all had in common the life and the world around and inside us. In the last years I became very interested in neurosciences and I have understood that it was what I wanted study, i think that it’s very stimulating the challenge of the human brain that knows and understands himself. I graduated in Neurobiology in 2010. So I had the opportunity to know the inner workings of the nervous system, to know the molecules responsible of our behaviors and to know the basis of the main pathology correlated with the complex world of the neurosciences. In occasion of my first Thesis work, for which I spent few months at the Department of Experimental Medicine and Pathology , Section of Virology, University of Rome, “La Sapienza”, I had a first approach with the laboratory life and some molecular biology techniques. The object of my work was the “Viral load determination of Human Papillomavirus in biological probes through PCR Real-Time methods specific for high risk genotypes“. For my Master Degree Thesis I attempted for 18 months the “Istituto Superiore di Sanità” (the National Health Institute), specifically the Drug Department and I had the opportunity to work with a great research team, direct by XXXXX. So I learnt several useful techniques of behavioral psychobiology, like tests to study pain, anxiety, depression, locomotory ability, learning and memory. The aim of my research was to set up a pharmacological study in animal models to investigate the role of formyl-peptides receptors in modulation of nociception. I would like to move to London because i think that it is very important for my researcher career that I have some experiences in an other country besides Italy, like UK, where the scientific research is so important for the community. I would like to learn to work in a new setting, with a different team, i hope that PhD in Neuroscience could stimulate myself to have a critical and enthusiastic approach to the Scientific Research. I realize that as a foreign student I will be required to work harder than my native colleagues and I am prepared to do that. I have a cheerful and open-minded disposition and look forward to sharing and exploring new ideas. I hope my application will be considered favorably sincerely, Silvia Maglioni"
