I wrote this letter to find an advisor for PhD degree in Electrical engineering department of Technion - Israel Institute of Technology . I want to ask you not only to check my grammar and spelling, but also write me what you thinking about this letter after reading. Maybe it s better to add something or remove. In one word, I want to ask you about a feedback after reading.
P.S. Pay attention, I am writing for the specific professor.
Dear Prof. XYZ
I’m writing to you with the intention of applying to be PhD student under your supervision. My goal is to develop my research skills and to improve my professional experience in the area of electrical engineering. Also, I'm very excited about the opportunities and the knowledge that I can obtain working within your team. My research interests are semiconductor materials and devices, integrated circuits and systems.
I moved to Israel from Ukraine four months ago. I spent my college years in the beautiful city of Donetsk, where I completed my bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, and Kiev, where I obtained a master’s degree in the same field. After my master’s degree, I decided to move to Israel. I believe this country will be the best place for my a professional and social growth.
My master’s thesis, “Multi-criteria evaluation of the quality of power supply according to the Smart Grid concept”, was conducted under the supervision of Prof. Serhiy Denysyuk. My work was considered an influence of quality criteria of power supply at various power levels of the network according to the Smart Grid concept. In addition, I conducted a research in the field of electromagnetic compatibility and received the diploma of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine for the article I published about my research work in this field.
During my life in Kiev, I was a participant at the "Keiv Hillel". I was an active member of local and international charity events such as Good Deeds Day, Volunteer Community, etc. I also worked as an Madrich for Taglig Birthright student groups traveling to Israel.
Before I decided to write you this letter, I read many of your publications and became interested in your work about the improvement of semiconductor materials and devices. It was especially a pleasure for me to read your works about a InP nanoflag growth and about a comparison between HfO2/Al2O3 and HfxAlyO as dielectrics in InGaAs based MOS capacitor. These articles were very illuminating for me and made me more interested to want to work with you. Being well aware of your outstanding academic accomplishments, work under your supervision will give me essential experience for my research career.
I am a very motivated, hardworking and productive person. Throughout my career, I've gained solid communication and organizational skills. I am sure that my passion for research work in the field of semiconductor materials and devices, along with my knowledge and competence would make me a valuable member of your research group.
I realize that as a foreign student I will be required to work harder than my native colleagues and I am prepared to do that.
I want to become a more qualified specialist in the electrical engineering field, especially in the areas you specialize in. I am eager to learn and develop my career as a researcher and would like to obtain an opportunity to work with you. For your close review, I am attaching my curriculum vitae and recommendation letters.
Sincerely,
Natan Gershengorn.
