Dear Recruiter,
I would like to be considered for the PhD position "ABCD" announced on 19th February on 'xyz.eu' and I hereby put my application forward. I am currently in the final stages of my M.Sc. Environmental Sciences, performing my Master thesis titled "ABC" under the supervision of Prof. STU, University of T and in collaboration with Associate Prof. KB, University of C.

The primary research goal of my thesis is to study the adverse effects of one of the most common veterinary antibiotic, Sulfadiazine on soil in the presence of manure. I have carried out the microbial analysis at the University of C using LI and PICT assays, and the infiltration of the antibiotics and manure into soil are analyzed using Accelerated Solvent Extraction and LC-MS at the University of T. If displayed with an abnormal resistance to the antibiotic, the species will be identified by DNA extraction. My research experience has taught me the limitations and complications of antibiotics, i.e. antibiotic resistance.

During my project at the A, H, I have had the opportunity to understand the basics of waste water treatment and quality monitoring. This experience has given me an edge when writing a term paper on 'Sewer Systems' and assessing water quality modeling, trace experiments, aquatic ecology and pollution for different hydrological & interdisciplinary courses taken up during my Master studies.

Alongside my academics, I have been a very active student and working as a student mentor for the M.Sc. E at the University which has expanded my experience and gave me an opportunity to develop a rapport with the teaching staff and also my peers. As a recognition to my scientific interests and social commitment, I was awarded the 'student prize' in November 2014. Being a complete extrovert is a boon, which helped me in showing my presence at every related possible instance.

Having studied and performed several molecular biology techniques along with bioinformatics during my bachelor study, I am certain that I will be able to learn and understand the research focus with full commitment. Working with an innovative team which will put a stamp on the future developments of new water technology seems very motivating and exciting.
