Cover letter for admission in PhD program

Dear all
I am posting my cover letter for admission in PhD program please advise me

Dear Professor XXX,
I learned about the PhD Studentship at the XXXX London from ad at www.cfd-online.com. I have First degree in Mechanical Engineering from Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (rank 5th in Pakistan) in 2000. My under-grade project was related to Study of Turbo Charger. After that I had pursed for MS degree in the field of Aerospace Engineering with specialty in Aerodynamics/CFD from College of Aeronautical Engineering Risalpur, National University of Engineering and Technology (ranked 366 by THE-QS). My MS dissertation was on the CFD study of High Pressure Turbine. I have CGPA 3.56 out of 4 in MS Degree. My reason for applying at Imperial College London is due to its world renowned reputation of being the top university and my current research interests are also closely matches with the VUTC. The VUTC is the prominent research institution in the field of Aero-Engines with emphasis on Turbo-machinery in field of unsteady aerodynamics and Structural dynamics. It has very good research program and publications in high quality Journals e.g. Journal of Turbo machinery.
My current research interests are the instability control in axial compressors using active and passive methods. I have also started work on transition effects in Low Pressure Turbines. This study will take place using the gamma-theta model of mentor, DES, LES (if computational resources are enough) and the active (VGJs) and passive control of separation. Moreover I have the worked on the interaction of Fan and Low pressure compressor mounted on same shaft with bypass duct (unpublished). Also work on the combined CFD analysis of High Pressure Turbine and Low Pressure Turbine with inter-turbine duct was also carried out (unpublished).
We have also worked on the design refinement of Two Stage Fan of Turbofan Engine with promising results (45th AIAA, PV2007-23) and the study of casing recess in High Pressure Turbine Stage (47th AIAA, PV 2009-512). In the paper on Two Stage Fan we have used the strategy for imposing the inlet boundary condition as atmospheric boundary condition for each point on compressor map. This approach is similar to used by M. Vahdati et. al. in paper in Journal of Turbo-machinery (April 2005, Volume 127).
Our recent work (two research papers) on tip injection and casing groves is accepted for the 49th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting and Exhibit Jan 2011, USA. Our research on the assessment of two commercial codes for performance prediction of axial compressor is accepted for ASME Turbo Expo 2011 to be held in Canada (GT2011-45006). In these research papers I initiated and motivated the students to work on this
I have the ambitions to work on unsteady interaction between the components, interaction of tip clearance vortex with main flow during stall, unsteady simulation of whole engine. Keeping in view the my qualification, my research interest, through understanding of turbo machinery from cycle to 3D analysis and the acquaintance with the current research in this area makes me the suitable candidate for this research position.

Yours truly
Sijal Ahmed

Hi, In my opinion, you have much too much detail and factual information in this letter. Most of it should be in your CV, which should accompany it. Just mention the highlights here.

Hi,

In my opinion, you have much too much detail and factual information in this letter. Most of it should be in your CV, which should accompany it. Just mention the highlights here.

Your letter should focus on you as a person, on your ambitions, your long-term interests, what makes you different from all the other people who are applying to do their Ph.D. in

Thanks a lot for your reply.

Can yo suggest which paragraphs or facts are redundant and should not be included.

Hi,

That's for you to decide, particularly since I know nothing about your field.

Here's what seems to me to be one small example.
